Professor Dr. Elicia Maine

Here’s what Elicia had to say about how the program will be adapted online:

If we teach online in the exact same format as we would in person, then it is an inferior experience. However, when adapting pedagogy to suit the new possibilities, it has superior aspects. Online teaching allows for more degrees of freedom. Scientists can balance weekly learning with their lab experiments. Parents can learn in shorter bursts, and in a way that fits around their children’s schedules. All students can draw from material, available at our fingertips to give examples to illustrate their arguments or to challenge and inform the course material. The discussion among the cohort and the self-reflection of individual learners is frequently more nuanced than in the face-to-face classroom. I was very impressed with the in-depth interaction between the cohort, giving feedback on each other’s application of course material.
