Are you a K-12 student interested in learning more about how to unleash your entrepreneurial mindset and make the change you want to see in the world?

At the Chang Institute, we know that the entrepreneurial mindset can help students build resilience, creativity, confidence, and the ability to bring their unique talents the changes they want to see in the world, helping them to adapt and thrive.  We also know that starts way before university! That’s why we work (and play) with other programs to support the entrepreneurial mindset right across the continuum of learning.

Some of our friends include:

PowerPlay (Grades 4 – 8)

PowerPlay students develop a product and business plan, conduct market research, complete marketing and branding exercises, and launch their products for sale at a final showcase. This Canada-wide educational movement is empowering young people with the skills and entrepreneurial thinking needed to help them succeed in our rapidly changing world.

YELL (High School)

YELL is a registered Canadian charity that partners with high schools and school districts  to support growth mindset and entrepreneurial learning.

Past Pilot: YELL and the Chang Institute for Entrepreneurship at the Beedie School of Business, piloted giving university credit for high school entrepreneurship, a Canadian first!  While the pilot is currently on hold for evaluation, it is still possible to apply for credit if you took the YELL program between September 2018 and the end of the 2021-22 Academic Year (details below).

The SFU credit can be counted toward a degree in the Beedie School of Business or toward the interdisciplinary Charles Chang Certificate in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. All students who claim the credit will automatically be enrolled in the Chang Certificate* and in entrepreneurship communications so they can immediately get immersed in the supportive SFU community.

To claim the credit, YELL grads must:
  • Be accepted to SFU
  • Have completed YELL in the 2018-19 to 2021-22 academic years
  • Have completed the related entrepreneurship 12 course with an appropriate grade (currently set at 80%)
  • Self-identify to the SFU admissions team with their YELL completion certificate

*If students choose not to pursue the certificate, they still keep the credit.

If SFU needs to verify a student name, please ask SFU admissions email operations@yellcanada.org to get confirmation of YELL participation.
